Garuda Indonesia ATR72 First Officer.
In line with the airline's efforts to develop and strengthen its
flight network, especially in the domestic sector, Garuda Indonesia
–the national airline of Indonesia- is pleased to announce its brand
new sub-brand "Explore" along with the introduction of the airline's
ATR72-600 aircraft into its fleet, on Monday, 25 November 2013.
In addition to the sub-brand "Explore", at the same time Garuda
Indonesia also introduced the sub-brand "Explore Jet" along with the
operational of its Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen fleet since last October
2012 to serve the airline's network in both eastern and western of
Indonesia.
President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar said, the
implementation of both sub-brands is in line with the exellence
charachteristic of Garuda Indonesia's ATR72-600 and Bombardier
CRJ1000NextGen that have the ability to serve flights to new
destinations in eastern Indonesia, which has limited runway.
"The "Explore" ATR72-600 aircraft will support Garuda Indonesia's
Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft operational in accordance to
improve the national connectivity program (MP3EI) by developing our
flight network to the fast growing economic regions and tourist
destination in the remote area in Indonesia," he said.
Moreover, the operation of these turboprop aircraft are also in line
with the company's efforts to enhance service to the customers by
offering a wider choice of destinations and travel options to
passengers as well as part of Gatuda Indonesia's move to join the
SkyTeam global alliance in March 2014 and in anticipation of 2015's
ASEAN Open Sky policy.
Garuda Indonesia will operate "Explore" flight through ATR72-600
aircraft, starting on 3 December 2013, with a single class cabin (All
Economy) configuration with a seat capacity for 70 passengers to serve
flights flying out of its hubs or spokes, such as from Denpasar on to
Labuan Bajo, Ende, and Bima, as well as from Makassar and Ambon to
destinantions in those regions.
In line with its fleet development program, Garuda Indonesia will
receive 35 ATR72-600, includes firm orders for 25 aircraft and options
for 10 additional aircraft, in stages up to 2017. The aircraft will be
used to serve short-haul point to point flights, and flights between
hubs and spokes. Garuda will use these new turboprop on routes that
are under the 400 Nm range in all regions of the country. The ATR
72-600 is very much capable of reaching small airports that have
runways measuring less than 1,600 meters, and are therefore too small
for jet planes.

Pilot Job Requirements:-
Education:
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, pilots must have at least
a two-year degree to work for an airline, but most require a
bachelor's degree. Completed coursework in such areas as physics and
aeronautical engineering is desirable.
Licensing:
All United States pilots who are compensated for transferring
passengers or cargo must be certified by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA). The FAA mandates that airline pilots must be at
least 23 years of age, have at least 1,500 hours of flying experience
and complete training at a FAA-certified flight school. In addition to
flight training, applicants also must pass written and flight
examinations and meet physical requirements, such as having 20/20
vision (with or without eyeglasses) and good hearing.
Experience:
Pilots can meet the FAA's experience requirement in several ways. Many
are trained to fly in the military, where they develop skills that are
transferable to operating commercial aircraft. Others learned to fly
at commercial aviation schools and gained experience by flying smaller
passenger planes or cargo aircraft for businesses.
Personal Characteristics:
Pilots must be able to remain calm under pressure and have the ability
to make decisions quickly. FAA training includes psychological
evaluation to ensure that pilots possess the necessary mental
stability. Pilots also must pay strict attention to detail to ensure
the airplane is ready for flight and spot signs of trouble during a
flight.
